Pink project

Welcome to Rhonda Ramsay's, Pink Project.

My goal is to help people living with cancer to not only survive, but to thrive.  Cancer does not have to be a death sentence, but rather a sentence to live life to the fullest and enjoy every moment.

Hoxsey Bio-Medical

The Bio-medical centre in Mexico was my beacon of hope. I had no idea what to expect going down there.  I had just heard of this “curing” tonic and special diet that was literally curing people of their cancer.  It was a no brainer for me and my family.  We immediately made an appointment and made plans to head south.  We booked flights and hotels and were all ready to go.  Then, as luck would have it, after my scheduled lung biopsy I got a pneumothorax (punctured lung)!  So, in true Ramsay fashion, against the doctors advice, we cancelled flights, loaded up the truck and off we went.  I thought long and hard about this, as if anything should happen along the way, there would be no health coverage for me.  But, in my heart, I knew this was one appointment I didn't want to miss!  We showed up to the biomedical clinic just one month after my diagnosis for just one day.  This place gave me the hope I was looking for and the plan of action I needed to know that I was doing something to fight this.  I was not going to sit around and wait, I was going to do everything in my power to beat this and live life to the fullest and show my children that nothing can stop you from thriving no matter what.

my experience

My experience at Hoxsey was definitely not something I have ever done.  I was stepping out of my comfort zone, which we all know is where life truly exists.  We stayed at a familiar resort in San Diego and had previously arranged to have one of the Hoxsey drivers pick us up at their pick up spot the morning of our appointment.  Again, I had no idea what to expect, I just knew I needed to be here.  We took a cab to the hotel where they do their pick ups and waited in the lobby.  There was no on else there so we hoped we were in the right spot.  My husband had been texting the driver, so at least we knew we could contact him if we needed.  Shortly there after in he walks ready to whisk us away.  He led us to his car and mentioned we would need to stop at one more hotel to pick up another couple.  But, when we got there, he searched around and they were nowhere to be found.  He said it happens as people back out all the time.  I had thoughts of that myself.  Like what the heck are we doing?!  Is this for real?  We are heading into Tijuana with a stranger to a strange “clinic” that we knew nothing about!  Again, something in my soul told me to keep going.  There had been many other obstacles along this journey to get here so it must be important.  We kept going, getting back in the car heading south!

the border

The border experience was not one I had dealt with before.  If you have never been, it’s definitely an interesting experience.  You now need a day pass and luckily we had the driver with us because we really had no idea what to do or where to go.  Grateful for him leading the way.  The drive to the clinic was interesting.  Men with masks and guns.  Again, we thought, what the heck have we gotten ourselves into! That being said, we are Canadians who have not done much travelling around the world so this was a new experience for us.  Our driver pointed out the clinic to us high up on a hill overlooking the city.  Now when I say clinic, this is not like a “western” clinic that I had been used to.  It’s actually an old cartel kingpin’s home that had been seized and sold to Hoxsey.  We had to have a little chuckle about the fact that we were literally pulling up to the Scarface mansion!  All part of the experience!  We were welcomed and given a little sheet to fill out then sent to the waiting room.  Shortly a nurse came to take me to give a urine sample and get a blood test done.  My husband asked to come in the room with me, but they said no (although, I am sure if you really wanted someone in the room with you they would let you).  So blood was taken and then we were sent for X-rays into the “pool house”!  However, it appeared that the X-ray machine was broken.  They had a driver instruct us that he would take us to a clinic downtown for the X-ray.  We were not comfortable with leaving the clinic and as I had brought all of my recent scans from home and reports we informed them that we would not go to X-rays (also, I had just had two the week prior because of the punctured lung).  The doctor was okay with this and then we were able to see him!

the first meeting

The first meeting was a basic medical history.  I will note that I brought my giant binder of all of my previous diagnosis as well as all of my current reports and scans.  One of my favourite things about this doctor was his kind eyes and his kind demeanour.  He was very comforting.  He said that cancer is not scary and that it is no different treating cancer than it is treating something like heart disease or diabetes.  Cancer just gets more attention because typical treatment makes the patient sick, very sick and all of the TV specials portray this to be cancer!  He also went through every single line of my blood work results with me.  He let me know what everything was.  What levels were good.  What levels I needed to keep an eye on.  And then he showed me my scans!!!  Which, in all the years I have dealt with this, not once have I seen a scan!  He showed me my tumours.  It was actually comforting to see.  Now I could visualize them disappearing!  And, to be honest, had I not seen them, I don't know if I would've believed it!  We sat there after it was all said and done and waited for it.  The time line.  When will this cancer get me? It never came.   He told us he expects them to be shrinking within the year!

that appointment

That appointment gave me more hope than I can even explain.  We left the office feeling like we had just won the lottery!  Now all we had to do was hang out and wait for my medications to be ready!!!  Which did take a while, but during this time we were given our “diet” print out and had a nutrionist there to speak to us about it and allow us to ask any questions.  The lady who now helps run the clinic happened to be there and was around to chat with and also ask questions.  It was a very friendly environment with a lot of laughter and happiness.

As we waited, it was so nice to know that our driver was waiting for us and would take us back when everything was ready!  We were excited to get back to our children in San Diego and even more excited to share the news!  We went upstairs to pay and once we got our medications we were off!  Feeling more alive than ever and ready to beat this disease with everything I had!  It was a day that I will never forget and be forever grateful for that clinic and all that they do!
